Air conditioning is vital in a hot summer. You're in a metal box with glass partitions that amplify sunlight, with an interior that soaks up heat like a battery. In other words, your car can get incredibly hot, fast. And while we hope that you'll never have to use it, every car has an emergency heat function for the winter. If your A/C isn't working properly, it's likely that your heater won't work as intended either. So if you're not already doing so, get into the habit of starting your car and letting it idle in the driveway for a few minutes to cool down before you get in. We also recommend getting your car's maintenance up to date before going on any long drives.
Always be strategic about your travels. Try not to always be driving on the road at high noon, if you can avoid it. Driving in the evening or in the early morning is better on the car, and better on you. Park in the shade when possible. Employ a sunblock screen for your car's window when you intend to leave your car for more than a fifteen-minute break.
Keep up the maintenance on your vehicle. A well-maintained car will keep you and your loved ones safe and comfortable on the road! Things like old brake pads, low oil levels, or bald tires can make any road trip more stressful than it needs to be.
